CORONAVIRUS SERVICE UPDATE
22nd March 2020
After a lot of discussion I have decided that we are going to have to make some changes to our service in light of the Coronavirus outbreak.
We have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend home visits.
I will still be available for video and telephone consultations, and will still be delivering medications as normal. If animals need seeing in person then they can be brought to the practice; though there will be extra precautions taken to prevent possible transmission such as asking you to stay in the car whilst I take the animal into the practice to examine and treat them.
Lianne is still happy to do nurse home visits at the moment, and I am trying to source a part-time locum vet that would be happy to do some home visits for those people that need them - I will keep you updated about this.
The final spanner in the works is that the schools are closed and so please bare with me if I am slow at answering the phone/ emails/ texts as we are trying to balance work with looking after a 3 year old.
I'm very sorry to have to reduce the service we offer, and I will get us back up to full speed as soon as I can. Rest assured that if your animal needs urgent care during this period I will do all I can for them.
Thank you for your patience and understanding
If you already have any appointments booked for the coming weeks I will be in touch with you to discuss making alternative arrangements.
All the best

During the corona-virus outbreak please do not be offended if I am wearing a mask and gloves during any home-visit consultations!
If you are self-isolating, or a vulnerable person, or living with vulnerable people and need medical care for your pets then I am happy to do video- consultations (via Whatsapp) to try and reduce the risk of transmission. This service is only available for registered clients whose animals are already under my care.
Please get in touch in the normal ways too book one of these appointments rather than making a video-call to me directly without appointment.
I will then drop any medication required through the letter box to minimise contact.
Finally, if you have any symptoms yourselves (cough, fever etc) then please be honest with me if booking a home-visit consultation so I can take any precautions necessary.
All the best,
Dr Mike Groombridge MRCVS

There has been some clarification from the government and RCVS as to what service we (as a veterinary practice) should be providing at the moment. It is as follows:
'Animals should only be seen in emergencies or where, in the judgement of the veterinary surgeon, urgent assessment and/or treatment is needed in order to reduce the risk of patient deterioration to the point where it may become an emergency in the near future (ie within the three-week time frame currently laid out by the Government for these measures).'
Rest assured I will continue to do what I can for your animals. If we can manage things remotely via video/ phone consultations we will, and if you are not sure if a condition constitutes an emergency give me a call.
